The Social Scientists’
Association, founded in 1977 in Colombo,
has made notable contributions to intellectual life in Sri Lanka,
the South Asian Region, and beyond. This non-profit organization has an
ongoing commitment to original analysis and activity around issues
pertaining to peace, democracy, pluralism, ethnic harmony, gender
equity, social transformation, labour and
human rights. Issues central to these themes have been highlighted
through the SSA’s programme of
research, conferences, seminars and publications. The SSA has published
many books and monographs as well as regular journals, widening the
frontiers of knowledge in areas of its concern.
The SSA has received funding from both foreign and local donors and has
also raised funds through its own projects such as the Suriya Bookshop,
the sale of SSA books through other bookstores as well as subscriptions
and donations to SSA’s journal in three languages. The SSA
receives support from scholars and activists in Sri Lanka
and abroad. |
